No movie with this much ass-kicking should feel so lifeless.. Long and torturous.. Man on Fire lacks the depth to truly ignite the screen, so instead does a slow, steady burn. It singes beautifully, but never explodes.. . . A depressingly gory parade of vengeance.. No worse and maybe a little better than most of the vigilante movies that clutter the multiplex.. It's quite possible that Helen Mirren has never had to speak such terrible dialogue in her life.. Overlong, off-putting and at times sad...
